The Herman Epika is a precision-engineered titanium EDC pen designed by Bartosz Herman, the maker behind Herman Knives. Known for their advanced machining and distinctive design language, Herman creations blend mechanical innovation with everyday functionality. The Epika continues this philosophy, translating the same engineering mindset from custom knives into a refined writing instrument.

The pen features a single-piece Grade 5 titanium body with a finely engraved surface pattern. Machining such a long, contoured titanium body from one solid piece without joints required specialized equipment and extensive development work. The result is a rigid, seamless structure that feels balanced in hand while maintaining a clean, sculptural profile.

A defining feature of the Epika is the HCRLS – Herman Ceramic Rotary Locking System. Instead of a conventional click mechanism, the Epika uses a carefully engineered ceramic ball system that controls both locking and rotational movement. Three ceramic balls secure the mechanism, while additional micro-bearings guide the motion of the clip and internal components. The housing of the system is crafted from phosphor bronze, a material chosen for its durability and natural self-lubricating properties.

The clip itself is machined from Grade 5 titanium and finished with a hammered texture that contrasts with the engraved titanium body. Beyond aesthetics, the clip is integrated into the locking system, forming a functional component of the mechanism rather than a simple attachment.

For reliable performance in any environment, the pen uses a Fisher Space Pen pressurized refill, capable of writing in extreme conditions — upside down, underwater, or in low temperatures. A UNI JetStream refill is also included, and the pen accepts standard Parker-style refills, allowing users to choose their preferred writing feel.
