Damaworks LLC is a U.S.-based supplier of German-made Damascus steel billets for knifemakers, bladesmiths, jewelers, and other craftspeople. Based in Ashland, Oregon, Damaworks is an authorized distributor of BALBACHDAMAST® and stocks billets in the United States for domestic and international shipment.
All Damascus steel sold by Damaworks is manufactured by BALBACHDAMAST® GmbH & Co. KG in Laubuseschbach, Germany. Founded in 1991 by master blacksmith Markus Balbach, the German forge developed the patented DSC® SuperClean process, which produces pattern-welded steel from solid material without powder or flux additives. The process is designed to create clean weld interfaces and consistent billets for demanding metalworking applications.
Damaworks primarily offers DSC® Carbon and DSC® Inox billets in a range of patterns, along with selected historical and specialty Damascus steels such as Leo-Damast®. These materials are used in custom knives, culinary blades, jewelry, and other projects where both material performance and visible pattern are important.
DSC® Carbon combines tool steels selected for hardness, toughness, and etch contrast, while DSC® Inox is a stainless martensitic Damascus intended for applications where corrosion resistance is important. Available patterns include torsion, herringbone, wild Damascus, small roses, large rhombi, pyramids, and other mechanically developed configurations that run through the billet rather than existing only at the surface.
Damaworks maintains inventory in Oregon and provides technical information on steel composition, heat treatment, machining, etching, and care. Its role is primarily distribution and maker support, while the forging and production of the Damascus billets remain the work of BALBACHDAMAST in Germany.
