Lubomir Krnak

Lubomir Krnak is a Slovak hand engraver, knifemaker, and restorer based in the Veľký Krtíš region of Slovakia. He began studying engraving as a teenager at an art school in Hodruša-Hámre and later developed his skills through years of work with firearms, metal objects, and restoration projects.
Hand engraving remains the central part of Krnak’s work. His projects include decorated firearms, hunting knives, metal accessories, and restoration of older weapons, combining functional craftsmanship with individually designed ornamental work. He works across different engraving approaches, with a particular interest in gold and Damascus steel.
Krnak’s approach emphasizes originality, precision, and a close relationship between decoration and the shape of the object being engraved. On high-end custom knives, this type of handwork can integrate precious-metal details, engraved surfaces, and patterned steel into a unified composition rather than treating decoration as a separate finishing step.
Alongside commissioned engraving and knifemaking, Krnak continues to undertake restoration work and participates in exhibitions and competitions in Slovakia and abroad. His portfolio reflects a combination of traditional metal engraving, practical weapon restoration, handmade knife construction, and decorative metalwork.
